The Seraph of Eden
As I woke upon the sandy shore
amongst broken wood,my ship destroyed
If this was the goal I knew no
more.
This place seemingly was devoid
direct contact with living creatures
but in the distance, I saw the wall.
This wall was without features,
no seams in the stone at all
and I wondered at it as I walked forlorn.
After some time I noticed a gate,
far away, my unease was shorn
here I’d find the truth about my
fate.
As I drew near something strange
about the gate, it was clear
that it would shift and change.
In one instant it would appear
to be rich, shimm’ring gold,
in the next it would be platinum plate.
Unable to stay back and hold
I drew near to this amazing gate
within arm’s reach I was thrown
back.
A glowing sword was held
as I lay shaken from this attack
I saw how I was repelled.
In front of me there was now
an otherworldy form
who was there I know not how.
Fiery, Flashing, though not warm,
it floated on the air,
and I shuddered in great awe.
I threw my arms up in despair
as a mighty sound from its maw
emerged and the land it shook
I wished to run, and to hide
all my will it now took
to stay there and abide.
"Beware all who travel near,
and know your soul is forfeit
well should you fear
you thing of mud and spit.
Dare not travel through
this realm of creation’s fire
forbade to all of man and you
for raising the Holy One’s ire
when this Earth was new-made.
For I am the angel set to guard,
and on me is the geas laid
to protect this sacred yard.
This I will say again,
human blood shall not be cast
into paradise once more, for sin
has ruined mankind both now and past."
And it unmoving now did stand
before the gates now barred
to me, alone in this land.
So, I have walked the wall unmarred
by wreckless human hand
unable to walk or sail away
I write by the wall I cannot climb
upon my dying day
the angel’s words upon my mind
how bereft was I
at Eden’s gate turned away
and forced to wander ,the only eye
To see before my dying day
the glories given up before
when sinful pride, were we cast aside,
to walk in Eden no more.
