I’m used to it by now, there’s always going to be a detail that is not explained up front and things need to be adjusted for…found out today that house insurance needs to be guaranteed before the house is bought.

If I wasn’t so used to it, I would be relatively angry, but I’ve got an easier correcting week this time around, I have time to do the running, and I am expecting things to come up every time I turn around.

Still though, does it make sense to require insurance on a house that is not purchased yet? It doesn’t make sense to me either…but them’s the breaks. Seems like a catch 22: you can’t get the money from the bank to buy the house with out insurance, and the insurance companies are not very accomodating to getting insurance on a house (estate sale) that isn’t yours yet.

Maybe I should’ve gone the route to get the insurance bundled with the bank?

I don’t think so, though, the amount of discounts I’m getting on auto, life and homeowner’s now actually makes the running and the worry today worth it.

So yeah. Good times.

The only thing I’m bummed about is the 2 week wait to get the interwebs at my house. But this too shall pass.

according to the loan officer at the bank.

I’m not entirely certain why it takes so long: they loan me money at an agreed upon percentage based on how much the house is worth, I have purchased title insurance in case there is a problem with the title…why not just give me the cash? You know I’m good for it, otherwise you wouldn’t have had the appraisal done.

Let’s cut the crap and get this taken care of, all right?

It’s not like I’m planning an expedition to the yukon or to sibera, and I’m waiting on supplies, it’s not like I’m traveling to a third world country and I need to get the state department’s permission, it’s not like I’m planning a mission to the international space station and I need to get trained with some goddamned kosmonauts, is it!?

No, I’m buying a house for a price agreed on by everyone and you’re a bank with at least 2 million cold hard cash sitting around. Fork some of that on over here, and I’ll get to work paying you back from the house which I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER WEEK OR TWO TO OWN.

So I was drinking last night, as is my wont, and one of my friends from dulut’ was in town talking about a 5k she was doing. Then she mentioned that you get to ride a train to the start area.

So I thought to myself: I’m a lazy person, and riding a train is cool, and I should start running again…heck yeah, I’ll sign up! Curse Brigid’s for having wireless, because I’m sure the feeling would have passed eventually. Oh well, now I’m signed up, and I’d rather train for a 5k than waste $31. Sad but true.

And I figure, hell…if Drew Carey and John Goodman can lose some weight, I figure I can too.

So, back into it. I’m hoping once this house is settled I can set up some sort of a regimen and such. I know there’s an Anytime Fitness down the street from me, and that would fit my urge to workout when no one else is around (late at night) so that’d be just fine I think.

The goal, as I’ve pointed out before, isn’t necessarily to lose weight, but to lose some size. I currently weigh in at about 280. I was comfortable at 250, and I’d be pleased as punch if I could get down to 230-240 again.

I’m almost back up to the amount I weighed when I had the video game shop, at 290 which is embarrassing, but grad school happened.

Wish me luck, suckas.

This house is taking up way too much of my time. A week or so to go, I’m hoping. The roofer called today to check on whether or not we were a go, and I said as soon as the bank clears then yes we are…so here’s hoping the loan that magically appeared from Sallie Mae doesn’t screw me over.

went as well as can be expected, the house is old so there were some things that need taking care of upon purchase.

The biggest thing is the roof, but we already knew that had to be replaced, so that was factored in to the negotiation already, and we know exactly how to proceed there.

The second biggest thing is the floor: apparently, they used 2×4′s in construction of the house instead of 2×6′s, that’ll happen on a house from the 40′s I guess. The biggest problem was the way it was shored up: apparently it was a botch job just to get some support under there and make it work. So we’ll have to have someone come in and remove the old support things (from the sounds of it they were randomized) and put in good ones, while making the floor a little bit more straight. So that’ll happen as soon as the loan goes through.

Second thing that came up is that the shower stall is leaking. It may be the pipes, but it is likely the shower stall wall itself which has a few cracks in it and such. I was planning on removing that anyway and putting a new one in, so this just gives added impetus to get it replaced if it’s leaking.

And then the furnace was shut off because it needed to be cleaned. Irritating.

All in all, though, the rest of the inspection was good and I was able to negotiate a little lower price due to these things and they agreed to it.

I’m hoping that in a couple of days I can arrange for the contractor that I’ll be working with to head over there and take a gander down under the house so that I can get a good solid estimate for that and for the shower.

I figure order of business will be: floor, shower, roof.

Good times, good times.

And even with those fixes and such, I’m still happy with the house and the purchase price so no complaints.
