Shocking double standards
A guy plans to burn Pelosi and Perriello in effigy, and shit hits the fan!
Somehow CNN thinks this is newsworthy, and people who know about it call the act “shocking and despicable.” Hmm. There are things which are shocking and despicable here, and it smells like double standards. But which double standard is it? There are three double standards possible that I can see, and CNN is holding up one of these (at least) in giving coverage to an event that will draw MAYBE 100 people.
Light ‘em up: Burning effigies of Bush and Cheney and Newt and Limbaugh is just plain ol’ fun. Nary a word said by any media outlet about this. However, light up a lefty and it is shocking and despicable and somehow newsworthy. Double standard on political stance? Possibly. OR there is a double standard about…
Women’s Rights: It’s ok to burn men in effigy, but not women. Then it’s shocking and despicable. Guess there’s still a glass ceiling gals, you’re not equal to your male counterparts yet. And if it’s not ok to burn women in effigy, then that’s a double standard…hoist up the flag for equal rights, but not for true equality? Meh. That’s possible, lastly there’s the double standard of:
Populism: when liberals burn shit, it’s exercising freedom of speech (like flags and such). I agree. But what strikes me is that when conservatives light stuff on fire, it’s dangerous and subversive. Uh huh. *sniff sniff* What’s that I smell!? DOUBLE STANDARDS!!!
So, in closing, congrats CNN. Way to uphold your stance as the network most responsible for holding on to hypocrisy. I hate fox with a passion, but at least they’re more up front with their bias.
