Brain hurted.
I wrote up 9 full pages this morning, and that’s pretty good. I’ve got another 20-30 pages on this chapter, and then it’s two to go. I want to get another 10-15 tomorrow, I’m relatively positive I can do so. I’ve got about 10 pages of notes for it, so it’s good to rock.
I try to work in hour increments, with about a 10-15 minute break between. I set a buzzer and everything, it helps me keep on track. The tricks you learn, I tell ya.
Anyway, here’s the break down of an average hour:
2 minutes – Set the buzzer, make sure I’ve got my coffee, and make sure my earphones are sufficiently rocking
10 Minutes – play hearts, swear at the computer for cheating, quit about halfway through the game. Play some freecell, one or two games until I win one.
2 minutes – sigh heavily and look over my notes.
3 minutes – sigh even more and use my dead eye stare to try and make the dissertation fear me.
25 minutes – write
3 minutes – play about half a game of hearts, swear again that the computer is a cheating S.O.B.
15 minutes write
Buzzer goes off
5-10 minutes, finish up the section.
Then I take a break, and start again. I do this about 2 or 3 times in the morning. Each hour I can get a good section completed, and those sections run usually (dependent on the amount of notes, how awake I am, how much I’m excited to be writing) about 5-6 pages.
This morning, I was doing two sections, one on Snori Sturloson, and the other on Aeschylus. 9 pages is pretty good. Tomorrow: Homer and the anonymous Beowulf poet. PERHAPS get the sections done on the author of the homeric poems and the volsung saga…and the poetic edda. We shall see.
