Speaking of green…

I’m off to go camping for a couple of days. Stay cool, interwebs.

Nintendo not green?

Greenpeace is always bitchin’ about something

I gotta say this came as a wake up call to me. Now I have completely brought my video gaming habits into question and asking myself about environmentally responsible habits. It has shaken me to my very core. I find I need to change my behavior.

Now I need TWO wiis!

JAMMA Arcade

a bit more about the arcade machine. I’ve been looking for a JAMMA cabinet for some time for precisely the reason you see below: interchangeability with other PCB boards. I’ve wanted the two arcade games shown below for some time: MK2 and Bust-a-move. Now I’ve got them in one cabinet, in addition to Super Street Fighter 2.

It pretty much rocks. I’ve replaced all the buttons, haven’t gotten to the joysticks yet. I need to pick up some extra connectors and such things to make it work. It’s pretty swawesome though, let me tell you. The main problem is its size…it is ginormous.

Arcade Parts

This post is mainly for other arcade machine enthusiasts, so regular readers may skip this and not feel guilty (just like you ALL skipped the month of June in 2007…one of my finest on records!!! *weep*weep*)

Ok, so the last time I had arcade parts that needed ordering, I went through ebay to get the joysticks and the buttons. They were cheaper (I’ll not lie, both price AND quality) than anything else I’d seen offered at the time.

For the time that I’ve been researching necessary things for the arcade machines(both back then and now), the name “bob roberts” had been mentioned several times on several different arcade forums in regard to cap kits. Little did I know that for practically any arcade part needed, Mr. Roberts had ‘em.

The Real Bob Roberts is in fact real, and is in fact named Bob Roberts. I’ve ordered a couple things from him for the arcade machine, and he’s a welcome change from ebayers. He answers emails quick, and his prices are exceedingly reasonable, and the parts are(in a true cliche) high quality. From now on, any time I need a specific arcade part, I’m going straight to his site. I’d highly suggest anyone who needs arcade parts/circuits/boards/wiring do the same. It’s right fantastic, I say.

in the parlance of the arcade machine: just mr. do it.

goodness, I crack me up!

back for the attizzack

ok, this weekend drove to salem (a trip of about 9~10 hours) on Friday for a surprise b-day party for my friend John’s 40th b-day celebration (he’s a buddy from grad school).

It was good times, and he was quite surprised.

Saturday we went and watched Kung Fu Panda, which I found to be high-larious. I suggest you all check it out.

Yesterday we drove back, and I played about an hour and a half of the ol’ softball before heading home, it was a church league pick up game, more or less. It was good times.

Today I get to head down to the PO and pick up a bunch of mail that was supposed to be delivered this weekend. w00t.

of Indiana and Crystal Skulls

My review is best summed up thusly:

This comic would have made a better movie, in all ways.

kerenyi Dionysos

just finished slogging through Dionysos: Archetypal Image of Indestructible Life.

Uff what a long haul. Got about 7 pages (single space) of notes though…half of them probably will make it into the diss.

I’ve gotta remember when reading these types of books to focus on the alcohol…I don’t give a rip about the sacred marriage or the birth of tragedy or the blah blah blah. It’s the wine, dummy!

If I can remember that, then I’ll be in good stead…it will help me keep focus.

hard-boiled

I thought that I’d have eggs for supper…and then I thought I’d hard boil them. It’d been a while since I’d had hard boiled eggs.

Apparently it’d been long enough for me to forget that I don’t really care for them.

Shoulda scrambled ‘em instead. Oh well, live and learn.

taco salad shell bowls

A more exact recipe is over at Right Quick Cook.

Ok, so I had a few extra tortillas from last night when I made some tacos, I had taco meat left from the last couple of days (thursday was taco salad, friday was tacos)…and I had all the fixins for one more heaping helping of taco salad.

So I decided, what the heck, let’s try make some taco salad shells.

I made four of them, so now I have leftover shells, leftover tortillas, and no taco meat. Vegetarian the next couple days. Ah well. Anyways, here’s what I did.

The first thing I did was followed the advice given at a few different places…mix water with about a quarter teaspoon oil, and then dunk a tortilla in it. Then, on a cooking sheet, place a cleaned used food can (I didn’t have a can, so I used some small glasses (oooh, dangerous I know…but I live a life of danger(I live with my cat))). Spray those with some pam or somesuch, drape the shells over them. Have the oven preheated to 450, and toss the cooking sheet in there, baking the shells for about 5 minutes.

After those five minutes (check to make sure nothings burning), take them out, flip the shells so they’re sitting as they would for you to eat out of, take out the glasses, and put it back in to finish baking them for about 2-3 minutes, taking them out at the desired level of brownness.

Of course, the first two turned out great, but pretty tasteless. So I adjusted the recipe some what, put in the water and oil in a mixture of ROUGHLY 4 parts water to 1 part oil. Just enough to be able to dunk the tortillas in, no reason to go overboard…and then sprinkle a good size teaspoon of salt and mix it all together as well as you can. Then repeat above.

The taste was pretty fantastic on those bowls, and only so-so on the OG recipe.

I rule.
