I’m going to sleep
before this day gets any worse.
Go across the courtyard rather to that laundry room, rather than using the one right underneath you.
Less chance of a batshit crazy old lady putting MORE MONEY INTO YOUR WASHING MACHINE AND THEN STOPPING IT HALF WAY THROUGH, AND THEN HAVING YOU PUT THOSE CLOTHES IN THE DRYER WHERE IT WILL TAKE 3-4 TIMES TO GET THEM DRY!!!!!!!!!!
the old broad cost me an extra $3 in quarters today. I’m so pissed.
that and the job interview this morning, today has been a bad day.
An all round bad day.
Here are some lovely tips that I’ve picked up in the short 3 business days I’ve been with a job agency.
1. Work full time instead of part time. (I’d love to, but I also love working at the web design place, which pays me less money, but I’ll accept that because I like working there)
2. Go to “on-call” status, where if they need temps ASAP, I’m called up. pay is slightly better.
3. Don’t take time off for school.
4. Don’t ask what your work is worth. Just this morning I was told “You may want to consider lowering your asking price, just to get the work flowing to you”. Sorry, but I’ve got two master’s degrees, I am willing to work very hard part time(since I don’t know how to work not so hard, ask the aforementioned web design place), and I’ve got bills to pay. I CANNOT CONCEIVE IN THIS WORLD of asking less than $15 an hour for a job such as receptionist or clerical work, especially if you are going to garnish my wages?
5. Edit your resume down to only show pertinent information. For the interview this morning, they sent a folder with me to give to the job I was “interviewing” for. It wasn’t so much an “interview” as it was a “we’re going to start you working asap”. Waitwait. How the hell do I know if I want a job in the first place? Secondly, the resume they had in my folder was edited down. None of my contact information was on it, they took off my extracurricular activities, my list of publications I was part of(either as editor or contributor) and, worst of all, THEY REMOVED MY LIST OF REFERENCES. What the hell?
So apparently who I am is just my education and my employment. Nothing else I’ve done matters, nor does it matter what my supervisors would say about me.
THESE reasons are why I’m rethinking the job agency situation.
