some may have

noticed on the Lodge that there was a hastily assembled “call to arms” if you will.

It has been taken down, in response to a polite request.

So, no, they haven’t been more fascistic, that was free choice that took that one down. If it hadn’t been requested by someone I respect, though, it would still be there.

Fighting the Fascists at BSU

here’s a reposting of the post by Kuha, plus the comments that I could find:

I have spent two of the last eight years in school jobless. I have to say I prefer being jobless in school, because typically I get better grades. But last year, I was seriously stressed out about money. My biggest problem is, I hate “jobs,” in the usual sense of the word. I’m no good at them, I constantly avoid doing any actual work, I spend all of my time trying to come up with ways of looking like I’m working while I’m actually doing nothing at all.

I have tried on three separate occaisions to secure employment at BSU, a very desireable and plausible situation to be in. Two of them failed, and the third is pending. The first time, it was to get employment at the Writing Resource Center. I think I was a sophomore. I was rebuffed by, “Have you worked in the WRC before?”

“No.”

“Then, no, you can’t.”

That may not have been exactly how it went, but that’s the impression I got from it, and it confused the crap out of me. How can anyone get a job there, if that’s their policy? Of course, I probably misinterpreted it, and I didn’t exactly pursue the job with any kind of fervor, but nevertheless, it was an attempt.

My second attempt was last year, when I applied for the G.A. position to teach college writing. I did not get this job, because they only gave those jobs to students who worked at the WRC (with a couple of exceptions, I think). Dammit! So close. Again, my personal feelings on this issue were varied (mostly anger and outrage, of course. I’m a very arrogant and narcissistic person). I felt I had been hard done by.

Anyone that would have argued my case was mysteriously not present at the English faculty’s secret meetings, which even I think is pretty funny.

Since teaching is essentially the only thing I think I would truly enjoy doing as a “career,” it was a pretty big blow to my ego. Luckily I have ego to spare. The end of the story is simply that I will try again this year to get the job next year.

My third attempt to get a job at BSU is currently pending. I have applied for the editor-in-chief position of The Northern Student, the school newspaper. Though I have never worked in “news,” I do have editor experience. And since an editor doesn’t actually write any articles, I think my experience would be useful.

This will be the perfect job for me. Weird hours, regular pay, lots of variety, and I get to write editorials! Will I get the job? I don’t know. I don’t really know anyone at the NS, but I’ve chatted with them, and I have my finger’s crossed.

The bottom line is this: my future at BSU rests on my ability in the next nine months to land a job at BSU. The editor job will go a long way, I believe towards getting me the GA for next year. The GA will help me pay for school next year (I actually physically can’t afford to take out any more loans. It’s killing me. Literally killing me.) If I don’t get the editor job, I will have to schmooze like I’ve never schmoozed before, because if I don’t get the GA I’m moving to China. Or maybe Las Vegas. One of the two. I haven’t decided which.

The question now is this: will this post increase or decrease my chances of getting either job? Please leave your speculations in the comment section. Correct answers will be placed in a drawing for a brand new iPod Nano!!!

there are also issues, especially with the GA positions in the English Department, where there are teachers who will hand out Letters of Recommendation like candy. Oftentimes with great assurances to those requesting them that they will receive the position.

That has happened to roughly 3 people I know about, and the English Department should really look towards allowing the profs only, say, one letter of rec for the position. Or, better yet, require a letter of rec from someone outside the department since 90% of the students going through college writing won’t be english majors.

I don’t know what, but something really should be done about that certain someone-who-hands-out-letters-of-rec-with-personal-guarantees.

ooo…that’s going to get out and cause as much trouble as Stephen’s calling the grad office fascists! I can’t wait!

So are you really giving this Ipod Nano away? And if you are, where exactly did you get the money? Are you some kind of undercover Apple agent?

Hmm… that’s a good question. I’ll get back to you.

Ask the Pirate for a job, he might have something nice for you.

Pirates are notorious for being very nasty bosses. If I were to work for a pirate, I would give it two weeks before a bloody mutiny would become necessary.

You’ve got quite the patience, Anybody who calls themself a pirate needs to be overthrown right immediately.

Fascists.

So, apparently, a post by Kuha that had been up on the blog I’m writing on for BSU, The Lodge has angered those in control. Even though it’d been up roughly a week.

And like the Fascists they are(as pointed out by Stephen earlier) they forced its removal.

Hey, I’ve got a plan for students going to class at BSU as well…how about we just hypnotize them? Because then the mind control will be so much easier.

Fascists. Next they’ll be burning the flag because it clashes with the BSU colors.

Yep. I just went there.
