all good
the thesis situation has been taken care of.
it’s going to rock.
so I’m being told that my creative thesis is “too long”.
if anything, I don’t think it’s long enough. I understand that MOST OF THE TIME, these things run 65-100 pages. I’ve provided copies to my other committee members, as well.
however, the “academic” side of things where I made a defense of the fantasy genre and its placement…I cannot make those statements and expect the readers to TRUST WHAT I’M SAYING without including the entire book.
I don’t want to be one of the critics based solely on what I’ve read. My statements that I make in the defense of the genre ARE CRUCIAL AND ARE TRUE because I am arguing from my experience AS A WRITER, not a reader. that’s the distinction that is necessary. and not just as a short story writer(which would support what I say), but as an author that CREATED A FULL PUBLISHABLE BOOK.
the story that I created, one that runs the full length of a book, gives me a position of authenticity with which I can argue my points about the fantasy genre. Without the complete book, with only an excerpt included in the final thesis, that position is severely undercut.
and yet my advisor is asking me to cut it down by 50+ pages at the very least.
look at it this way: I’ve created something, and now I’m being asked to cut away the full something to only excerpts. I don’t think I can.
I honestly feel like crying.
