I’ll say this for it: it improved on the first one quite a bit.
Rather than a completely repetitious and crappy battle system, they shortened the fights quite a bit and didn’t overwhelm you with enemies. That was a big problem with the first game, they’d dump 7-9 enemies on you sometimes, and it wouldn’t let up for roughly 4-5 minutes, you’d kill one and immediately another would take its place.
POP2 has much more balanced battles, and overall, quite the quick ones too.
The boss battles are pretty key as well. Big, cool looking, and rather difficult for the most part. There are some really easy ones. And the difficulty lies mainly in not knowing the patterns right away.
There is only one thing wrong with this game: too much like the soul reaver series. Esp. soul reaver 2, and defiance. A little bit similar to Blood Omen 2 as well, but not much. The battle system, the weaponary and the enemies were all VERY reminiscent of Legacy of Kain, which are, in my opinion, the better games and the better series.
Still, though, for $10, it wasn’t near as much of a disappointment as the first one was.
I’d suggest renting it fo’ sho’, took me about 12 hours to plow through it, and I didn’t find everything. I’d imagine it’ll take roughly 7-8 hours next time, and that’s including getting all the stuff.
