another standardized test?

californians are designing a test to gauge “internet intelligence”

They say that the test is so they can tell how well a student will be able to use the internet for research, and how well they’ll evaluate websites for information needed in papers. This test would “be useful in figuring out ways to help them do better research.”

Ooooorrrrr….you could just teach the students in a normal class(like college writing 2) how to properly analyze sources.

why, oh WHY does there need to be a test for this? We’re basically taking away their ability to fail in college if they don’t do things the right way. Pardon me for being a jerk, but seriously…if the students are led by the hand through high school, it’s one thing…that’s the public education’s job. But once you get to college, the student should learn from the mistakes they may make and ought to be able to deal with any setbacks that may happen.

Testing the students like this, and if found not up to par, putting them in a “catch up” classroom is evidence of the lowering standards of college. It used to be college would be a place where the student was brought UP to a certain level, and that this level was a bankable assett for jobs and life after school.

But as has happened in recent years, the colleges will accept anyone, regardless of ability to make it through their chosen program. With the less abled students being pushed through the program, the job pool has become increasingly cramped.

But I guess that’s just evidence of the institution of higher education’s thirst for money and profit.

busy nights

what sucks about holiday weekends is that the nights are usually 3 times busier than normal. This makes reading a bit difficult, as to get into the textbooks it requires a certain rhythm to be used when studying.

This is nigh impossible when there are people coming in every few minutes, and having to break from the books. I’d play my GBA, but even that is difficult to get into at the pace people are setting.

This particular arrangement works great for tinkering on the internet and the blog, as you can see.

I’m so damned bored and angry at people.

financial aid tango(le)

so Sallie Mae has finally contacted me.

their letter is less than clear, however, in that it says in one paragraph that I owe the repayment in full either A) immediately, or B) when the loan enters repayment status.

The following paragraphs say differently. They tell me that if I should wait to pay it back until later, that it would be under the agreement of the signed promissary note.

So now I’ve got to call them and clarify what is going on here. And if it is the case that I don’t have to pay it in full immediately, then I will probably pay off my business loan early, and worry about the student loan later.

man. that’ll be totally sweet.

some additions

added another site, Cosmos and Logos

added a few more blogs, welcoming back Audrey and Simon, and adding one of the few conservatives from Pacifica on his blog Gaypatriot. His posts are from gaypatriotwest, apparently. As well, I’ve added Berne’s Blog, a friend from class last semester.

I’ve also added a counter up top counting down the days until I’m free of the dreaded night shifts.
