a full day

of fairy tale class. it was pretty funny today in class, there was mention about how religion was meant to keep people from experiencing spirituality, because most people could not handle a direct confrontation with the unconscious.

so everyone(sans a couple people) started ragging on religion and how that’s true(caveat: only christian religion, they let every other one off the hook)…so one of my friends raised his hand, and said that it wasn’t only religion, but every institution to some extent was created to stop the individual from making gigantic mistakes, because people need help in instances such as that. I believe his direct quote was:

“So, like religion, Academia was created to stop people from learning anything”

man. it’s like he clubbed a baby seal. the students were really upset, and started complaining about how that wasn’t true, and then the professor said “Y’know, he’s got a point. It’s more or less true. Public Institutions are set up to protect the individual from his and society’s inner demons of the unconcsious.”

and then, comic gold(for me anyway): one of the students spoke up and said “well, but you shouldn’t say negative things about academia and those institutions like that, there’re individuals inside them that we’ve got to remember.”

now the reason this is comic gold, is that this student not 5 minutes before was loudly agreeing to the statement about religion.

yep, I deal with this shit every time I come out here.

wiccans, idiots, and Pacifica

ok, so yesterday I got a blessing from ‘the goddess’ of one of the crazies out on this campus. because I had recorded a lecture and burned it onto cds for her, she ‘blessed’ me.

yeah. she didn’t seem to pleased with the question I had for her today:
“Are wiccans who eat sandwiches cannibals?”

and then there was the idiot in class today, who said that “the oral tradition is much more resistant to change than the print/electronic form of tales”

I wanted to hit him. As hard as I possibly could. I’ll have to wait, I suppose, for the opportune moment when I can crush him.

*sigh* What the hell am I doing out here?

Persona

so today we learned about the standard way that the map of the psyche is laid out. We learned about persona, how that was the face you show to the world. It was the way you interacted, hiding parts of yourself that you deemed unworthy.

I’d just like to point out that this blog is a persona.

I’m really quite different to how I carry on both here and in the public face.

Moby Dick paper done

finished it up. Not happy with it, but given only three pages to work with, it’s the best I’m going to do in the time that I’ve got to do it in. ’nuff said.
