here’s to my Dad:
Who taught me to always take responsibility for your actions, when he apologized for punishing me when it was one of my brothers who messed with his tools.
Who taught me that it was ok to stand up for myself, when he didn’t punish me after getting into fights in middle school.
Who taught me that to gain respect from your peers is important, when he introduced me to the many people he’s known throughout town.
Who allowed me to fall on my face in the self employment world of business running, when he helped me to secure a loan to pay for my glorious failure of a video game store.
Who taught me that I could succeed in whatever I chose, when he didn’t stand in my way when I switched majors from comp sci to english, and when I decided to go to grad school.
Who taught me the most not by lecturing me, but by giving examples.
Here’s to my Grandfather:
who taught me that other people have opinions that are just as valid as one’s own, when he took up(on purpose, I think sometimes) contrarian positions to my own around supper.
who kindled my interest in mythology and fairy tales, when he had books such as the original Grimm’s Fairy Tales and different legends books that he let me read in addition to the garfield books.
who taught my greatest teacher, when he raised my father.
