avril lavigne + sum41 =

apparently, avril lavigne is engaged to the lead singer of sum 41.

Ok. Fine. But what happens when they combine all their stuff?
let’s do some simple mathematics.

marraige: 1+1=2
combined spiked collars: around 34
songs entertaining high schoolers: around 60 or 70
combined band members: around 5 or 6
musical talent: suck^2 (that’s suck squared for the non comp sci people)

numbers may change, because sum 41 to my knowledge never made a song good enough for me to find out the exact numbers in their band…also due to the fact that the jury is still out on whether any of the above band/singers are actually human…I mean she’s canadian, and does that count? As well, the musical talent may be an optimistic number.

class today

on the white whale and a bit on odysseus. it was all in all an all right time. learned some stuff, had some stuff that I had thought now validated, and just chillin’ in the library now(with the good looking librarian who normally does not work on wednesdays)

checkin’ out some books on fairy tales and on the shadow.

letting my mind recover from three days of constant abuse of knowledge.

good times!

a full day

of fairy tale class. it was pretty funny today in class, there was mention about how religion was meant to keep people from experiencing spirituality, because most people could not handle a direct confrontation with the unconscious.

so everyone(sans a couple people) started ragging on religion and how that’s true(caveat: only christian religion, they let every other one off the hook)…so one of my friends raised his hand, and said that it wasn’t only religion, but every institution to some extent was created to stop the individual from making gigantic mistakes, because people need help in instances such as that. I believe his direct quote was:

“So, like religion, Academia was created to stop people from learning anything”

man. it’s like he clubbed a baby seal. the students were really upset, and started complaining about how that wasn’t true, and then the professor said “Y’know, he’s got a point. It’s more or less true. Public Institutions are set up to protect the individual from his and society’s inner demons of the unconcsious.”

and then, comic gold(for me anyway): one of the students spoke up and said “well, but you shouldn’t say negative things about academia and those institutions like that, there’re individuals inside them that we’ve got to remember.”

now the reason this is comic gold, is that this student not 5 minutes before was loudly agreeing to the statement about religion.

yep, I deal with this shit every time I come out here.

wiccans, idiots, and Pacifica

ok, so yesterday I got a blessing from ‘the goddess’ of one of the crazies out on this campus. because I had recorded a lecture and burned it onto cds for her, she ‘blessed’ me.

yeah. she didn’t seem to pleased with the question I had for her today:
“Are wiccans who eat sandwiches cannibals?”

and then there was the idiot in class today, who said that “the oral tradition is much more resistant to change than the print/electronic form of tales”

I wanted to hit him. As hard as I possibly could. I’ll have to wait, I suppose, for the opportune moment when I can crush him.

*sigh* What the hell am I doing out here?

Persona

so today we learned about the standard way that the map of the psyche is laid out. We learned about persona, how that was the face you show to the world. It was the way you interacted, hiding parts of yourself that you deemed unworthy.

I’d just like to point out that this blog is a persona.

I’m really quite different to how I carry on both here and in the public face.

Moby Dick paper done

finished it up. Not happy with it, but given only three pages to work with, it’s the best I’m going to do in the time that I’ve got to do it in. ’nuff said.

sittin’ here doin’ nothin’

typing up my paper for Moby Dick that’s due on wednesday. Don’t know if I can wrap it up in 3 pages. Maybe I can. If I can’t, then I can just take out an example, and I should be good.

A friend did his paper on the cosmogony of Moby Dick.

*shrug* to each their own, I suppose.

I feel like that little midget guy…”De goth boss!, de goth!!!

life, once more, is back to normal. sort of. more or less.

and if Erin doesn’t want me to link to that page due to the messes that she manages to get into, I’ll take it down, but for now, my sidebar is normal once more.

Of School Reunions

the all school reunion is coming up where we all gather to see how bad off everyone else is.

I still haven’t decided if I’m going to go or not. It might be fun. On the other hand, it might really really suck.

And IF I do go, I’m going to have to find a beautiful woman to bring. And they’re not cheap.

hangin’ in LA

pretty decent weather out here…not hot and muggy like at home. Don’t even need an air conditioner!

heeheehee…sucks to be people in Bemidji without an AC.

anyway, off to chizzurch(is that blasphemy, saying it like that?) and then to a movie.

had an odd dream last night…there were some carney’s that had set up shot in leuken’s…there were three tables, but only one game on all three. You had to hit a typewriter key on a normal typewriter in order to see if there was a firecracker behind the HUGE typewriter key behind the tables, if there was you won some cash. I found out they were cheating and cried shenanigans.

I got some of my money back, but some of it was counterfeit, only printed on one side. When I turned those damned carneys in for that too, they shot me in the shoulder when my back was turned. And that’s when I woke up.

and we weren’t talking regular carneys here, we were talking well dressed slicked back hair, 30’s gangster style carneys.

it was very odd.

what’s even more odd is this bullet hole that I’ve got in my shoulder…
