bein’ the best man

so I’m looking over the ‘responsibilities’ of the best man on several sites on the net…here are a few:

Before the Day:
Arranges the bachelor party.
done to the best of my ability.
He attends the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.
ok.
Select a gift for the couple.
WHOA. What the bloody hell? I’m attending the wedding, dressing up, paying for the bachelor’s party, and I’m STILL supposed to get them a gift? I don’t think so. I know this sounds cheap, but it comes down to the fact that I won’t have ANY MONEY to get a gift. They should view my presence as a gift. Speaking of which, so should all of you!

On the Day:
Ensure that the groom’s Trouser zip is done up
ummm….I don’t know if I’m comfortable looking ‘down there’ and telling him
Fear and second thoughts are calmed and put to rest
no. I’m going to be urging him to run as fast and as far as possible. That’s the kind of good friend that I am.

At the reception:
Give the first toast to the bride and groom at the reception.
I’m reasonably certain I can get this one right.
He dances with the bride and with the maid of honor.
I am a dancing machine.

of weddings and bachelor parties and social calendars

I’ll be honest, I’m not a big social butterfly. I’m more a social moth. One of those moon moths from the original doctor doolittle that only comes out once in a while. And this condition gets worse the more that I do. These last two months have been hectic to the extreme, starting from spring break…papers, flying, more flying, classes and more classes, and more flying and more visiting relatives. Well, as one could imagine, I’m pretty burned out and sick of it.

But there is one more event(two actually, but they belong together)…my former roommate’s wedding. Lee is getting married on June 4th, and I am the best man. I’m throwing a bachelor’s party for him this sunday. I’m doing the best I can, as I’ve actually never been to a bachelor’s party before, we’re starting out with grilling some foodses, and then going out for some drinkses.

I personally cannot wait for June 13th thorugh the 17th. Those are my first 5 days off in a row, with no work, no classes, and hopefully all of the reading for pacifica done by then.

that means 5 days where I can let my mind just sit with no necessary usages.

I can’t wait.

Moby Dick

and tonight I begin reading the huge book about one man’s insatiable quest after the great white whale.

I’ve tried three or four times before, and each time I had to stop about a tenth of the way through…I couldn’t handle the monotony any more.

Some people say the white whale represents manifest destiny, I say it represents monotony and boredom which will drag anyone ensnared in it down to the depths of the ocean.

Guild Wars Guild Page

yes, I know that it is pretty bare bones, but I haven’t had a lot of time lately.

as well, it’ll be more pumped up once more people decide to join.

we’ll see.
