fairy tales

So today we had a class in fairy tales, covering largely the archetypal possibilities of translating them.

eh. it was all right. not the best 10 hours I’ve ever spent, but not the worst.

I asked the teacher if he had ever run into Tolkien’s essay ‘On Fairy Stories’, and he said no he hadn’t. Which kind of surprised me, but then I realized that Tolkien was very heavily christian in the essay and definitely in the conclusion of the essay.

that kind of stuff doesn’t fly ’round here.

they study religions, they don’t want to know about people’s personal experiences in the religions.
