Student Bill of Rights

or as I will be calling it from now on, Student Twits Underscoring Preposterous Ideas Dumbly.

I found out about this from Dann Siems’ website. While I have had my many many issues with what Dann Siems taught, one thing I’ve never had from him is a lack of fair judgement. I have never had an issue with how he taught his courses. I may see his views as being unbalanced(sometimes to the extreme) in support of his cause, but there has yet to be a time where I’ve heard of him completely disregarding what you have said if you have the credible sources to back it up.

Nor have I heard of him being unwilling to hear dissenting arguments in class. Sometimes he will rip those arguments to shreds, but he always gives time and opportunity for fair say.

Which brings me to his post about a complaint on one of his powerpoints where some student was ‘greatly offended’ by some wordplay being made. Wait, let me try find it. Dang. Completely lost it. I WAS going to play the world’s smallest violin for this student but I seem to have misplaced and/or eaten it. It’s wordplay, and albeit kind of clever…or as clever as you can possibly get on a powerpoint. This student obviously has no sense of humor whatsoever if such a thing causes great offense. I wonder when he/she watches tv? eh. Best not to go there.

Anyway, the STUPID organization supporting the so-called student bill of rights(finally what the post is supposed to be about) is advocating stopping the apparently liberal slant of the education system. In order to do this they are pushing to make teachers present BOTH sides of an issue. What the hankle(as sue says)?

Sounds to me like the STUPIDs want to be lazy. One of the most important things about learning is looking for stuff on your own that either supports what you are saying or what the teacher is saying…in looking for said stuff, you can learn much more and support the LIBERAL education you are getting. In this case, I believe the ‘liberal’ stands for more. I believe what the STUPIDs are trying to do is take away our responsibility to research.

Come on. Teachers have a limited time to teach. Why make a SCIENCE teacher teach about creationism? Half the science teachers I know(Siems excluded) would f*** it up. That’s like asking a preacher to talk about evolution. Instead of intelligent debate, you’d get blanket statements from both sides. So rather than having the teacher teach his or her expertise(ala science) what the STUPIDs want to do is make sure that they’re teaching both sides of the debate. What then is left for the STUPIDs to do when paper writing time comes around? Because let me tell you, if both sides were covered in class, how the blazes are you going to write a good paper as all the points have probably been covered?

In the end, I am going to use a capitalistic idea to support Dann Siems. The irony is pretty delicious. Like a fine cognac. mmmm….anyway.

The stup..sorry, student, is paying for this college. If he or she doesn’t like how one class is taught, they can either A) complain politely and try get as much out of the class as possible, B) complain politely and file a formal complaint, C) Rant about it on their blog(guilty!), D) research on your own so that you KNOW what is going on and can explain it to the ‘offender’. or(here’s the kicker) E) Take your worthless money, go to a different college where they don’t teach you to think on your own.

Capitalism will do what the STUPIDs are trying to do, IF there is a drive for it. The schools that employ largely the ‘indoctrinating’ profs(which I’ve yet to run into any that are indoctrinating me, other than Marty Wolf indoctrinating the CS students to love linux) would thus be out of funds to continue, and would have to close. The open minded colleges would benefit from the increased business and thus teach better.

However, it seems to me, that like the ACLU the STUPIDs have not enough to do, and thus will make a mountain out of a molehill when someone complains about ONE PIDDLY LITTLE DETAIL. So what do we need to do? Stop the STUPIDs.

And before anyone who stumbled onto this website starts ranting and raving about how liberal I am(namely if any of the STUPIDs track back here), I’m a conservative christian. I vote independently however, and have yet to vote for GW. However, on pret’ much all issues I’m conservative. Now only if BSU had employed some of those indoctrinating profs to cure me.

Oh well.

Back to ranting.

in other local news

I’m going to go see Sin City tonight.

I also really hate both blogger and google lately. Google has been extremely slow. Blogger’s blogspot blogs have been coming up with ‘document contains no data’ for both comment forms and blogs for the last couple of weeks.

While this torques me off, it does give me a greater appreciation of just what my $17.95 a month to prohosting guarantees. Unless I have done something wrong, Froyd.net is never off the map.

Well, until the feds catch wind of it, probably.

Fire Ring Voices

is a go.

I finished securing funding today, found out how much we had in ye olde bank acct, and dropped the book files off at Arrow printing.

They’ll have a test copy by the end of the week, and then the rest of them by April 20th.

Mission…COMPLETED.

spring cleaning

you can always tell how big a paper is that I’ve got to do by how clean my house is.

Yesterday, instead of working on my paper, I began cleaning my house. I’m not talking surface clean, or straigtening, I’m talking whipping out the broom and mop, the hard scrubber, the so-unbelievably-caustic-cleaner-that-has-a-skeletal-hand-warning-sticker-on-it-it-is-so-powerful. I even broke out the vacuum and did a bit of cleaning of the video game area.

That’s right. My kitchen and living room areas are spotless…I didn’t get to my room, but that is in the coming days.

No matter how important a paper is, it always seems to be less important than cleaning when it comes right down to it. And as most of my roommates know, cleaning isn’t exactly high on my list. But when I start, I usually clean to the best of my ability.

And yesterday, my house needed it. I haven’t given it a good scrub down since before kamran moved out. Oh well. Chalk it up to spring cleaning. What I’ll need to do now is sequester myself in the library at school and not allow me to leave. They won’t let me at the cleaning supplies there, and eventually my laptop will run out of batteries so I can’t mess around on the internet.

THEN my papers and homework will get done.

a strange coincidence

You are Clark Griswold!
You are Clark Griswold (from National Lampoon’s
Vacation)! You’re full of optimism and
boundless energy, and no one loves a good
family trip more. No one else can swear a blue
streak like you either, Sparky!

Which John Hughes Character Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

what’s really odd about this is that when I worked at the Big K(k-mart), my nickname was sparky. and I swore a lot. the nickname was given to me in sarcastic reference to my usually ‘cheery’ demeanor.
