the lecture yesterday

wasn’t that bad at all. I was impressed, he doesn’t have quite the same confrontational attitude that his books have.

and today, history of the unconcious! oh boy!

Google Adsense

well, my experiment has come to an end. They caught on to my clicking on the ads myself, and in agreement with the terms of service, they have disabled my account.

*shrug*

surprising how I’ve been doing that for the last 5 months, and just when there’s enough in the account to get paid, they disable the account. I wonder how many sites they’ve done that to?

Not that I didn’t know I’d be caught, I knew it would happen sometime, but I felt that since they’re advertising on my site, and have been for 5 months, that perhaps they owed me some money, paltry sum though it may be. Now…let’s imagine if google did that in real life, the conversation would be something like this:
Google “We want to put signpost ads on your field that you’re renting, mr. farmer”
Farmer “well, all righty, how’s about I gets paid so’s I can pay my bills?”
Google “Oh yeah, sure, just as long as YOU don’t look at the ads, we’ll pay you”
Farmer “You do realize that I’ve got to pay rent, and you’re taking up space?”
Google “Doesn’t matter. We won’t pay you if you’re the one looking at ads, it has to be other people.”
Farmer takes out the shotgun and blasts google away. Farmer sells the body to the mafia and internet black markets and pays for his rent that way.

but, as I said, I knew that it was going to happen one day, I just assumed that they’d have cut it back in October when they noticed what the site was doing. And the fact that if people DO click on your ads, you’re not guaranteed to get paid for it anyway, it has to be done before that advertiser’s money has been paid out for the day.

there were plenty of days when I did not click at all, yet I got something like 10 clicks(according to google) for which they paid me nothing.

So, in closing, Google Adsense: Good for google and the advertisers, a rip off for individual sites…slowing down the loading of the site without giving any monetary income to the owner of the site.
