Lent
ok, I’m not a catholic. I’m not a practicing one(what’s up with that? you’d think after 1500 or so years they wouldn’t need to practice anymore, they could just do it? Anyway), I’m a red blooded lutheran.
but I’ve got strange habits. Like drinking, swearing, and video games. In an attempt to curb these habits I have taken up, in the last 3 years, to give up something for lent.
Year 1(2002): I used to drink Mountain Dew like a mofo. I would consistently drink 4 to 5 cans a day. Sometimes more, but usually about that. It was a sad sad sight. So in 2002 I gave it up over lent. I am proud to say that I’ve not had a mountain dew since then.
Year 2(2003): Video Games. Yeah, I gave up video games for lent. It wasn’t easy, and I’ve worked hard ever since to limit the amount of them that I play. For the most part, I’m successful. I blame my wallet.
Year 3(2004): Alcohol. Wow. last year SUCKED. There were several disappointments that came over lent that I really would have appreciated having a glass of beer over. Instead, I had to suffer and put up with friends dragging me up to International Falls where if you don’t drink, you are assumed to be an alien lifeform. It sucked.
This year(2005): I think I’m going to give up Coffee. I’ll try to make it the full 40 days without a shot o’ java. It might be more difficult than I imagine. We’ll have to see.
Anyone else giving something up for lent?
