this goddamned Laptop

so the last 5 days I’ve spent an average of 15 minutes each time I turn on my desktop waiting for it to start up. That’s ridiculous. Occassionally the damned thing won’t even find the administrator profile on it, and it resets to defaults on everything until I restart the computer. And then sometimes it says it can’t even boot the harddrive.

This morning, it completely wipes my settings off the map, no getting ‘em back once the comp restarts. Nothin’. So I’ve spent the last two hours getting it back to par again, and sent off a quick email to gateway for help. Guess what they tell me?

Try running defragger(no shit, sherlock, did that)
Try making sure you don’t log into a network when you start up(no need to worry about that)

and then the kicker: If possible, run a virus scan program.

oh, and they say use a system file checker.

come on, how stupid do you think I am? Fucking jackasses. All of their suggestions have been implemented before I emailed them, and now I’ve got to spend the next week getting the computer back to my preference range.

If I meet a tech support person on the streets, I’m going to beat the living shit out of them. Apparently all they can say is ‘try restart the computer’ They actually told me to try this as well. They didn’t seem to get that the computer ISN’T having trouble running(when it gets started) it’s having trouble ACTUALLY getting started.

I needs me a nap

it’s amazing how much that extra 45 minute nap that I take on my lunch break helps. Tonight I couldn’t take one, because I had no one here to cover for me like I usually do. This had to do with the fact that the person who works the other 8 nightshifts in a two week period(by nightshift, I mean graveyard for you nincompoops that think that evening shifts are night shifts) called in sick.

Amazing how every time she’s called in sick in the last year has been on the last day of her stretch of nights. Hmmm…sick, or just plain lazy? I’m sure you all know which one I’m talking about.

Anyway. naps are brilliant. If you haven’t gotten in the habit of laying down and letting go for a half an hour at least, I do not envy you. You should be able to do that, and your entire day goes so much better.

Right now I’m struggling to stay awake with 2 hours left of my shift. Still didn’t get any writing done for my class this afternoon, unlike Lindsi. Oh well. My excuse? I don’t have the books, and this weekend was rather busy. *shrug* I’m sure that she’ll understand. I won’t have the books until Friday. mmm…financial aid.
