Shrouded

The Shourd of Turin again baffles scientists.

Now, in a peer reviewed journal, it has been agreed that the carbon dating tests that were done in 1988 that placed the shroud only hundreds instead of thousands of years old were taken from a reweave instead of the actual shroud.

These things and others like them, are the reason I’m glad that things such as the Holy Grail, Atlantis, and other artifacts of antiquity have not been found. On one hand, it keeps the mystery and stops people from arguing endlessly about whether or not they’re quote-unquote real.

But, on the other hand, if they were found, it would keep these same scientists testing endlessly rather than running about creating monsters and threatening humanity with doomsday devices.

But I’m not sure which hand would be better chosen.

Ok…some things….

1. You’re going to be packed in like sardines in an airplane if you pay coach class. The secret is you’ve got to fly when the other sardines aren’t. Then you get the whole row to yourself.

2. No matter how much room, you’re still never comfortable sitting/laying in the sardine can that is the modern airliner.

3. Virginia Woolf’s Early Short Stories : Holy God-Awful Boring. Except for the society, that one was awesome. There was another one. I’ll have quotes from those two stories tomorrow evening on here, when I’ve got access on my own comp.

4. I now officially REALLY hate CNN. Nothing sucks more than being stuck in an airport where they are playing it louder than your earphones go, and the news is repeated every half an hour. I swear that I’ve got all of today’s broadcast memorized.

5. Airports should NOT change the gates that flights are departing on in between when I arrive at the airport 5 hours early, and when I need to leave. Almost missed my flight, but made it to the gate with still 15 minutes to sit there and wait to board. I don’t know what caused me to double check the gate status(because early it said the gate that I was at, and that gate is the one I’ve flown out of for the last 3 flights), suffice to say that SOMEONE was watching out for me.

6. Cowboy Bebop is a brilliant cartoon show.

7. I’m tired.

Finished Fable

wow…WOW…I can’t believe how extraordinarily bad the writing was for that story. Out of nowhere comes the villain, with no back story, no clear motives, and just an evil mask. Wow. What a horrible horrible thing to do. 10 hours in, and I can honestly say I didn’t care at all about the ending. Thank goodness it was short.

Sure there were a couple gimmicks here and there, but that wasn’t quite enough to make me play it through on the good side, especially considering that the ending pretty much stunk, both sides of the evil did.

Aagh. I can’t believe that they MADE a game with such a ridiculous and bad story line…oh wait, they did. It was called Quest 64. Oh yeah, I just compared Fable to Quest 64, and I’m not going back. In fact the fact that there were only like 3 monsters in each game that you fought against had a lot to do with that comparison, as well as the horrendous story telling. I felt the same way about Quest 64 as I do about Fable now that I’m done with it: Hopefully it will be a long long time until I have to play this again(if ever).

What can I say? Bad game because of bad story and bad gameplay. I am NOT impressed.

Stupid Fog

well, if you were awake(like me) at 5 AM this morning, visibility for us’ns on the ground was not even a quarter mile. That’s only like 1200 feet. Not a great deal at all.

So what does the FAA do? Cancels my flight. Now instead of being in LA at 11 AM, I’ll be there at 11PM(those being the only times my little brother could pick me up). Do I get any frequent flier miles? Nope.

*sigh*

Oh well, instead of sitting at my little bro’s in comfort while he’s at work, I’ve not got a 5 hour holdover in a stupid airport.

more on fable

REALLY unimpressed with this game. I still haven’t figured out how to use the expressions, nor the easy way of changing targets. The combat is pretty crappy, and the magic is goddamned weak.

I am not pleased with this game so far.

Fable

In most games like this one, I go through the game on the good side. The goody-two shoes who helps EVERYONE in the game is me. usually because it makes the game more difficult and longer, as helping people out involves a lot of running and quests. As well, it is difficult for me to be good on the level that these games require. When a sarcastic evil comment like “Maybe you should sell yourself as a slave to stay with your daughter, because obviously you are retarded to gamble money you don’t have” comes up, it is difficult for me to pick “Don’t worry, I’ll go save your daughter from the people who stole her to make up for the money you owe them”

I mean, especially in a game where it doesn’t reflect on real life, where you can say what you want and be as mean and nasty as you wish. Who wouldn’t be that mean? Now comes the problem with Fable:

I don’t care one way or the other whether people in the game think nicely of me or if they run and cower in fear. I think it is because the game is all shiny and soft coloured and so far respectful. And then there are the damned accents.

Now, they didn’t take GOOD brit accents, except for one or two people. Rather their accents involve people who speak like Eliza from My Fair Lady, and just general guttersnipes ranging from Ireland to Wales to Scotland.

It doesn’t so much bother me, but the game’s plot is so hackneyed and dull, it just doesn’t inspire me to feel any need to be nice to the people in the game.

I think I’ll just be evil.

And so to dream…

I’m going to sleep. It has been a busy day getting readings out of the way. And it’s not even 10 oclock yet.

oh well. I guess I’m getting old at the ripe age of 24.

Ritual Comin’ out my ears

I read all but two essays for my new quarter’s classes at Pacifica. This time around the three classes I have are Greek and Roman Mythology 1, The History of Depth Psychology, and Rites and Rituals.

Today I read almost all of my rites and rituals readings. I now know the general initations involved in childhood to adulthood, consecrating a new tribal leader, some of the ancient mysteries, some of the cults of the mid east region, and a great deal more about Australian rituals and rites of tribes there that I really need to know.

And technically, they weren’t very in depth descriptions of what was going on, rather it was explaining the author’s ideas of the theories behind the rituals. Most of which I don’t really agree with. We’ll see what they have to say in the classes next week.

’s a very bloggy day

Some videos for you:

via Sara: Some guy who could be me with 50 extra pounds singing some NumaNuma song(link should work now)

translation via Julie A. can be found here, if they’re not up, they soon will be.

Also, via Sarcasmo’s Corner: Dogs who know Judo. The best episodes are the third and fourth ones, the first two are nothing that I was impressed with.

FREE THE GRAPES!!!

I’ll be honest. I don’t give a damn about wineries and direct selling to consumers…but this picture of a pissed off shackled grape is so cool I had to put it up. Is he mad cause he’s shackled, and he’s pointing at whomever did it to kick his ass?

Or is he mad because his disco dancin’ feet were stopped by the chains of injustice?

Whichever it is, it is safe to assume that you do NOT want to get on this grape’s bad side.

Anniversaries

Originally Froyd’s Rants was created on January 16th of 2004. So I missed the ORIGINAL date of creation. That, however, was using Blogger to do things.

TODAY is the real anniversary of Froyd’s Rants in its current incarnation. January 26th!

Happy 1 Year’s Birthday to Froyd’s Rants!
