A question for the women-folk

just what does ‘unofficially seeing someone’ entail?

I asked a girl to go out with me for coffee one day this week, and she let me know up front that she was ‘unofficially seeing someone’, but that wouldn’t stop her from getting coffee. So we decided on a day(the first day was no good, so I offered her a raincheck, but she countered with another day instead and it worked), and gave me her number.

But just what the hell is ‘unofficially seeing someone’ supposed to mean?
