Hmm…
it’s been a while since the last post. work sucks, and I’ve been there the last couple of days.
Milowski’s second day of class was really no better than the first. She covered, basically, the settlement period of american history, from prehistorical natives onward. If I had wanted american history, I would have taken a class from McManus.
And then…THEN she said some shit that really upset me. She was talking about prehistorical times, and the stories left by some native americans, and how they featured a woman as the first being and creator of land. Then she went on to say how the prehistorical people, who had statues and such of women with large breasts and pregnant belly, just assumed that pregnancy was magic. A byproduct that sometimes happened when people had sex.
WRONG. If these ’savages’ were so backward, how did they domesticate animals and breed them? If pregnancy was such magic, how the blazes did they advance from hunter gatherer to animal husbandry?
People who have such a narrow view of the past peoples I find extremely troubling. These are the same kind of people who automatically dismiss myths and legends as backwards and foolish, an example of how before the present ‘logical’ age, all was darkness and backwards. That isn’t true, and it is plain ego to assume such.
I have a feeling this class is going to be horrible.
Anyhows. Back to work. Bleh.
