The french government is trying to deal with the problem of religious discrimination in their schools. Do you have a better solution?

Herein lies the problem with your argument: This isn’t about ‘religious discrimination’, read the article, and read other news articles about it. This is about the so-called ’separation of church and state’. This isn’t about protecting children from being bombed because some crackpot doesn’t like headwraps, this is about French govt. trying to STOP people from practicing their religion. This is religious persecution wrapped up in self-righteous attitudes that the state cannot be influenced by religion.

This french plan is pure malarky, because EVERYONE in government will be influenced by their own lives, and for many, religion makes up a great part of that. Its quite silly to assume that by stopping people from practicing religion, that this influence will stop.

Friday Five Questions

Questions courtesy of Friday Five

1. What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
I went up during an academic awards ceremony in High School, and instead of saying my name, I said ‘By day, I’m Sean Froyd, but by night…I’m BATMAN!!’

2. What one thing would you like to try that your mother/friend/significant other would never approve of?
Sex. Of course, the whole world should worry about me procreating, so this isn’t really a surprise.

3. On a scale of 1-10, what’s your risk factor? (1=never take risks, 10=it’s a lifestyle)
I’d say I’m around a 6.

4. What’s the best thing that’s ever happened to you as a result of being bold/risky?
I got some cards and money for saying the aforementioned batman.

5. … and what’s the worst?
Eternal Family Shame.

Avast Ye!

Arrrr!!

If any landlubbers try something like this on me ship, once they’ve boarded, they’ll get not only a taste o’ the back o’ me hand, but a sword in their gullett, and a gun in their face! And if that don’t stop ‘em, I’ll keel-haul ‘em! Damned scally-wags!

Arrrr!

On the Kay Report

Ok, so the media is jumping all over the Kay senate hearings, and reporting(not surprisingly) only a small bit of what actually was said. What with Newsweek showing on their cover page the quote ‘We Were All Wrong’ and showing the pictures of the supporters for war. They forgot the detractors as well, namely Chirac(Le Worm, as the brits call him, the saddam lover) and the Germans. The entire transcript is here, but I’ll pull a couple of parts just to show you what important things that the mass media forgot.

“I would also point out that many governments that chose not to support this war — certainly, the French president, [Jacques] Chirac, as I recall in April of last year, referred to Iraq’s possession of WMD.

The Germans certainly — the intelligence service believed that there were WMD. “

Also,

“In my judgment, based on the work that has been done to this point of the Iraq Survey Group, and in fact, that I reported to you in October, Iraq was in clear violation of the terms of [U.N.] Resolution 1441.

Resolution 1441 required that Iraq report all of its activities — one last chance to come clean about what it had.

We have discovered hundreds of cases, based on both documents, physical evidence and the testimony of Iraqis, of activities that were prohibited under the initial U.N. Resolution 687 and that should have been reported under 1441, with Iraqi testimony that not only did they not tell the U.N. about this, they were instructed not to do it and they hid material. “

And please, liberals and Bush-detractors, explain why it wasn’t a good idea to remove a despot who had repeatedly flouted UN resolutions?

I’ve noticed…

That people don’t use the expression ‘fisticuffs’ nearly as much as they should. That also goes for the statement ‘Taste the back o’ me hand!’

Those two statements are incredibly underused.

Just to rile some people up

ok, because I can, I’m going to spout off opinions that’ll just piss most college kids off, and I find this entertaining because I AM a college kid. Also, what fun are having opinions if you can’t spout off occasionally?

DFL stands for Damned Fool Liberals.
The only good liberal is a deaf and mute liberal.
Cops are good people, and if you weren’t involved in illegal activities you might notice this.
The ‘man’ isn’t out to get you. The ‘man’ doesn’t even give a shit about you, so get over yourself.
Animals are people too…specifically fuzzy, small, people…and when cooked right, very tasty.
Marijuana will rot your mind.
Alcohol, while tasty and marginally healthy should not be mixed with girls/boys/condoms.
Teachers are your friends.
The war in Iraq was GREAT.
President Bush is a good president, with impeccable comic timing.
Feelings get hurt sometimes…this is why we have them.
Capitalism is not the ‘great evil’. Communism is.
and finally, for all you philosophy students: Death to the Proletariat.

Ahhh…I’ve been meaning to get those off my chest for 5 years of college.

Nirvana

I have found my center. It is roughly 4:30 AM, I’m at work, I’ve just installed Quake(original) on my laptop, and was playing that. I’m finished now, and a feeling of calm has settled over me. I am done with what homework I have, prepared for what will come, and all is well.

A really good friend from Eurospring is coming up this weekend, and perhaps I shall get to spend some time with her and others, I have one more night of work left, I am going to LA to visit my lil’ bro next wednesday, and as previously stated, all is well.

Perhaps I shall now, henceforth, use this feeling of inner peace to be kinder and gentler to all I come into contact with, making the world a better, brighter place.

Eh. F that. I’m-a gonna go kill me some monsters.
