Well, I don’t know if I’ll make the Pre-socratics class today. EXTREMELY tired. Would be great to sleep a long time. We’ll see how I feel after 2 hours of sleep. sooooo sleepy.

So, during one class period we were lambasted by the local enviro-maniac Dann Siems. He went on and on about how people who eat fish sandwiches at fast food places are eating all the pollack, and that the seals who eat the pollack are not as fat, so killer whales are now eating OTHER things, like otters.

His estimation was 9000 otters/year/killer whale. Hmmm….ok. All of this makes a TINY bit of sense, but correlation does not prove causation. The estimated population of otters in the 80’s was somewhere from 100,000 to 137,000. That means that approximately 10 killer whales could have eaten well for 1 year. According to recent estimates, the number of otters are down to mere thousands. Now, if Siems was correct, OBVIOUSLY there would be no more otters around alaska, because the killer whales are so hungry all the time.

I yell out to him, in response to his argument: “SHENANIGANS!!!!’

Now, why do I yell that? Because many other experts, shown here, have no definite proof of what is causing the down turn in otter populations.

But I guess we should pay more attention to the more INFORMED argument that blames fast food capitalism for the problems. But this is just another spot where the bias of the professors against the human race AND logic shines through. Contrary to their statements in the beginning of class of non-bias.
