State of the Union

Nine months of intense negotiations involving the United States and Great Britain succeeded with Libya, while 12 years of diplomacy with Iraq did not. And one reason is clear: For diplomacy to be effective, words must be credible, and no one can now doubt the word of America. GW Bush

Boo-Yah!

There is a difference, however, between leading a coalition of many nations, and submitting to the objections of a few. America will never seek a permission slip to defend the security of our country. GW Bush

Preach it, sistah!

At the same time, we must ensure that older students and adults can gain the skills they need to find work now. Many of the fastest-growing occupations require strong math and science preparation, and training beyond the high school level. GW Bush

Whoa. Now you talkin’ crazy!

propose larger Pell grants for students who prepare for college with demanding courses in high school. I propose increasing our support for America’s fine community colleges, so they can train workers for the industries that are creating the most new jobs.GW Bush

Preachin’ to the choir!

By computerising health records, we can avoid dangerous medical mistakes, reduce costs, and improve care. To protect the doctor-patient relationship, and keep good doctors doing good work, we must eliminate wasteful and frivolous medical lawsuits. GW Bush

Waitasec. Computerisation leads to ROBOTS!

I have been a witness to the character of the American people, who have shown calm in times of danger, compassion for one another, and toughness for the long haul. All of us have been partners in a great enterprise. And even some of the youngest understand that we are living in historic times.GW Bush

He forgot to point out the can o’ whoop ass we opened up!

May God bless the United States of America. Thank you. GW Bush

oh, He will.

Just a note: I find it pretty funny that I had to go to BBC News to get the full text of the state of the union address, cause CNN didn’t have it. Crazy, huh?

In closing: GW, you’ll be MY president for the next 4 years.

Well, Duh….

A bunch of doctors are worried about Cannabis being downgraded from a criminal drug Class B to a Class C in Britain and giving the impression that it isn’t as dangerous a drug as others. Read all about it here. Anytime a drug has chemicals in it that they don’t even know what they ARE, let alone what they DO, I’m of the mind that it should be a criminal substance. Not only that, but banning it pisses off the hippies, and I’m all about that.

Up on the SoapBox

I try to stay away from the rantings about video games(no need to make me look any more the geek), but every time something like this comes up, it rankles. Violent Video Games are now targeted by the city of Miami. The city wants to fine any business who sells a violent game to a minor w/o parental consent. First of all, they define a violent video game as a game in which players kill or cause harm “to a human form.”
That is a rather BROAD definition, and could also include say, football or soccer games. There is harm done to human forms in those games. This definition is BS, and this is a knee jerk reaction to a part of the population complaining.
Secondly: This game, while violent and definitely desensitizing(hell, I played it through, and the very next day didn’t feel a thing when I gunned down a guy in the next game I was playing), would not lead kids to violent actions any more than violent tv does.
Thirdly: If parents were doing their damned jobs instead of letting the video games and tv teach kids, this wouldn’t happen. That leads into another rant about how hypocritical some parents are. They allow the tv to babysit kids one day, but the next they decry it as the destruction of society….what the hell is their problem?

There, I’m done, and its kept me up for a while longer. I wish I were playing GTA: Vice City right now, actually.
